The 'Vehm-Andhshradha' Nirmulan Program

As a part of the centenary year celebrations, Charotar Education Society organized an event on the blind faith with the noble motive of bringing awareness in the society. The event was organized in the Bakrol village on 25th June 2015. On the occasion, Shri Anilbhai Patel, founder member of the Nisarg Community Science Centre; Gandhinagar discussed about various beliefs prevalent in the society based on blind faith and how various fake people take wrong advantage of this ignorance of the people by practical demonstrations.

Anil Bhai said that the main reason of the blind faith prevalent in our society is the ignorance of the people due to the lack of scientific temperament. Even well educated people also still believe in such blind beliefs just like uneducated people and don’t think of thinking logically as they fear it will go again the religion and faith. Thus due to such strong and blind faith in the religion, we get daily a new religious preacher; a bhuva; tantric or a mataji; out of which majority of them just fool people on the name of religion.

Anil Bhai stated that behind every such miracle, there lies some scientific logic, like blood coming out of coconut, ‘Mataji na pagla padya’ (steps of goddess), chundadi coming out of coconut and like that much more. For instance, in the case of Mataji na pagla, a thin solution of turmeric and water with some chemical is prepared and applied on tiles before devotees start arriving. Then due to the constant passing of the people, due to their foot impressions, red footprint arises on the floor, which are propagated as Mataji’s pagla and people are fooled and money is collected from them in wrong way. Similar is the case with other such blind faith rituals. Moreover, there is no scientific logic behind beliefs like  black cat crossing your path harms you and other such beliefs.

Talking about science and religion, Anil Bhai said that there is nothing wrong in believing in God or religion. “Dharma” actually is a way to live the life. Remembering god or chanting god’s name gives peace to both heart and mind. But religion today is mostly taken in a wrong way and due to high level of blind faith wrong concepts are now deep rooted in people’s mind. Due to excessive blind faith amongst people and incomplete knowledge about the religion & logic, people are wasting more and more productive time in religious practices instead of engaging in fruitful work activities.

Today, India has around 30 lakh people who in the name of customs and religion do not work and are dependent on begging and related activities for their survival. Such people who exist in large number are like a burden on the economy of our nation and tax payers who work hard day and night. If such people engage themselves in some skill based activities, they can help in our economy.

People in our nation still lack scientific approach in their behaviour in spite of increasing rate of education. Our main motive is now to bring awareness among people, both educated and uneducated as well as urban and rural people.  People need to understand the difference between religion, spiritualism and blind faith. Real development is only possible when each and every citizen of India will develop scientific temperament and logistic approach. Because where there is science, there is development.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: Historic Figure of India’s Freedom Struggle

Subhash Chandra Bose was born on 23 January, 1897 in the Cuttack city of the present day Odisha province in eastern India; then the Orissa Division of the Bengal province of British India. He belonged to an aristocratic Bengali family and his father was one of the most successful lawyers of Cuttack.

Netaji stood fourth in the prestigious Indian Civil Service (ICS) exams in the year 1919, which was quite tough to pass on the first trial. But he resigned from the coveted Indian Civil Service as he didn’t want to work in the alien British government and returned to India and became active in the freedom movement.

Netaji joined the Indian National Congress in 1921 and became on of the foremost leader of the radical youth wing of Congress. During this time period he was arrested by the British government and imprisoned. He was selected as the president of Congress for consecutive two terms in the year 1938 & 1939.

Slowly & gradually, Netaji got inclined towards the path of the armed struggle to flee India from the foreign rule and thus resigned Congress. Due to the tremendous public support gained by him in his freedom campaigns, the British government held him in house arrest in his Calcutta’s residence. However he was successful in escaping from the British watch and reached Germany via Afghanistan & Soviet Russia. During this entire struggle, Netaji was thinking on only a single though about how India could be made free from the clutches of the foreign British rule and started working intensively on the planning. During this time period, he married an Austrian girl named Emilie Schenkl

Netaji believed that in order to defeat the Britishers and make India a sovereign nation, the help of the anti-British nations; i.e. the Axis nations group of the Second World War comprising Germanys, Japan must be taken. His strategic skills, planning and leadership skills can be seen while negotiating with the Nazi Germany & Hitler as well as the Japanese administration and influencing them to help his cause to force the British forces to quit India. Thus, the respectful title of “Netaji” (leader) was bestowed upon him due to his unique leadership capability.

His step of the formation of the Azad Hind Fauj or the Indian National Army (INA) in the year 1943 in Singapore with the motive to make the motherland independent through aggressive armed struggle is one of the most significant aspects of the Indian freedom struggle. Through the aggressive operations carried out by the INA on the eastern front of the British India, Netaji was successful in shocking the roots of the British Empire in the subcontinent. In one of his famous speech made by him in Rangoon (present day Yangon) on 4 July 1944; he gave the famous inspirational slogan of “Tum Mujhe Khoon Do, Mein Tumhe Azadi Doonga” (Give me your blood, I will gift you independence).

Much more can be discussed about Netaji. Shri Anup Dhar will throw light on various facts about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose through detailed interaction on 7 July 2015 in Dheerajlal J Shah Town Hall; Anand.

Diary of my Memories- Dr. Bharat Patel

"If you don’t get 100 Marks in Mathematics, you're not supposed to go home in vacations!"

As soon as the name of Vithal Kaka strikes the ears, we all become nostalgic and start remembering the days of our childhood. Vithal Kaka is still toady the symbol of inspiration for not only Charotar Education Society but for all the students who have studied in CES. Viththal Kaka focused on the overall development of the students along with their theoretical knowledge.

(Puja Vithal Kaka in front of the main building of DN High School)

He used to teach the students bicycle and encouraged them to take part in sports, used to take them to watch plays and also sent them outside to help the people. In this way, there are a number my childhood memories related to CES.

He used to take constant care about the health of the students and used to compulsorily feed us dates & ghee in the winter season. We were affectionately offered mango juice by Vithal Kaka & Ishwar Kaka and sometimes Leela Baa also used to feed us mango juice without their knowledge.

Vithal Kaka used to say that education is the base of the life and if we used to lack behind in our studies, he took strict action against it. I still remember when I got 99 marks out of 100 in mathematics, he ordered me to sit beneath the DN tower and threatened me that till I don’t achieve 100 marks in mathematics, I was no supposed to leave for my home in the vacations.
I want to give the credit of my success to Vithal Kaka and will be indebted to him my whole life.
